She Rocks Like a Teen

E        G# F# G# F# G# F#
When Mary was in high school

E     E        A        G# A   G# A
She would dream herself a star

So she left her little      city

E      E F#  F  F# F  F#
With a kiss & au revoir

F#    G#     F# G# F#  G# F#
She moved to Boston proper

E         E        A   G# A B    C#
Where she’d sing & be the queen

E  E        F#  G#    G# G# F# E
Because she looks like a diva

E  F#    F#  D# E
& rocks like a teen

E     G# F# G# F# G# F#
She met a fine guitarist

E      E       A    G# A     G# A
Who could find his way around

E      F#  G# G# G# F3 E
They had a   little     baby

E      E       F#  F     F# F    F#
Who could not stay on the ground

F#     G#  F#  G#   F#  G# F# E
While he was climbing furniture

E        A     G#  A B  C#
She’d sing and intervene

E  E        F#  G#    G# G# F# E
Because she acts like a    mama

E  F#    F#  D# E
& rocks like a teen

E      G# F# G#   F# G#  F#
While Mary  lived in Cambridge

E     E        A     G# A   G#   A
She would play the smaller gigs

E     F#   G# G# G# G#        F3 E
She crafted this and worked at that

E  F#  F       F#     F  F#
Until   she'd make it  big

F#   G#   F#  G#   F#  G# F# E
She tried out for    a    cabaret

E       A     G#     A  B  C#
Then practiced her routine

E  E    F#  G#     G# G# F# E
& now she plays like a   master

E  F#    F#  D# E
& rocks like a teen

E     G#   F#   G# F# G#     F# E
Well that was many   years ago

E        A     G#  A    G#  A
When she was star of   stage

E        F#   G# G#  G# G#    F3 E
She's now become a   grandmother

E      F#     F     F#     F    F#
Who sings and turns the page

F# G#  F# G#   F#   G# F#
I     fell in   love with Mary

E       E A  G# A  B    C#
When I hit the senior scene

E        F#  G# G# G# G# F# E
She’s my   supernova      woman

E  E    F#    F#  D# E
& she rocks like a   teen

  • What a lovely jingle.

Even I who has no musical ear could sing along.

Otherwise, just trivia,  do you have to repeat the 'she' in

& [she] rocks like a teen

    Thanks very much, Alex.

I'm fiddling with the melody, and will see if I can get the rock feel I want, and lose that beat.

    Thanks for the idea :)

    Great job, Rus!
    What a nice tribute!
I sang my way through it and never stumbled. I'm sure that's because it scans so well.

    Happy Birthday, Mary!

Great to hear from you, Carol. I will let Mary know. She was happy to hear from Pat yesterday :)

    Thank you
  • It has great rhythm, Rus, and has a country feel. Is that correct?

Mary will be delighted with this piece, and rightly so. I'd love to hear the song.

I'm off to write a song for my wife. Time to get back in the good books. *smile*

    Best

    Hi JJ,

    Marvelous comment, thank you.

I am sure your wife will love your song, plus it is fun to do, to write and play. Last night before going to bed, and then this morning, when I got up before Mary, I played the song on the piano upstairs, so that she could hear it. It brings a smile.

It does have that country feel you mention, but Mary gets jazzy with it. I kept the melody fairly simple, without variation from stanza to stanza, so that instrumentation could take place between given stanzas, and simply return to the familiar melody.

    Thanks again.
